Enjoy a memorable bicycle ride spanning 3 days
Get ready for a mini-holiday with cycling, Skibladner trip, and attractions.
Day 1 (Sat / Mon / Wed)
Arrival Hamar
• Bicycles are available for rent at Karset aktivitetsgård, Ridabu (10 minutes from Hamar). Bikes will be delivered to an agreed location, and bicycle luggage trailers are also available.
• Spend as much time as you like to explore Hamar’s attractions.
• Overnight stay at Fjetre farm, Stange (6 km from the town centre).
Day 2 (Mon / Wed / Fri)
Hamar – Lillehammer (61 km, 627 m elevation gain, moderately challenging)
After breakfast, ride in direction Brumunddal. The day starts with one of the most beautiful stretches along the entire Mjøsa – across the beach promenade as you leave Hamar, and then along the Jessnes beach (with the charming Fiskerhytta Fagervik café) to Brumunddal. Mjøsparken, a new recreational area, is well worth a stop. Perhaps also an opportunity for a swim in Mjøsa?
From Brumunddal, the route continues through the beautiful landscape that inspired Alf Prøysen’s life and work. Take a break at Fru G. café, or perhaps a detour to the Prøysen Museum (and café) a few kilometres before Moelv. A visit to Ringsaker church, a basilica from 1150 with a unique triptych, is also recommended.
From Moelv towards Brøttum, Mjøstråkk follows the slightly busy route 213 for 15 kilometres. Please note that this stretch does not have a cycle path. By Brøttum, turn onto Gamle Kongevei – a slightly hilly and very idyllic flower-lined country road, with several excellent swimming spots and old restored crofts along the way.
• Lillehammer marks the transition to mountain-Norway, and is the gateway to Gudbrandsdalen. The town is renowned for its welcoming pedestrian street and, of course, the 1994 Winter Olympics.
• Maihaugen open-air museum tops the list of attractions, but Lillehammer is also home to an internationally renowned Art Museum and the Norwegian Olympic Museum.
• Overnight stay at one of Lillehammer’s accommodation providers.
Day 3 (Tue / Thu / Sat)
Lillehammer – Hamar (61 km, 0 m elevation gain, very easy)
After breakfast, you can either spend all day in Lillehammer town centre or visit some of the attractions nearby. Check Visit Lillehammer’s website for tips, or drop by the tourist office by the railway station.
• Skibladner arrives at Lillehammer at 15.00. Join this beautiful paddle steamer on its voyage south towards Hamar.
NB! The vessel departs from Vignes on the western side of Mjøsa, approx. 1 km from Lillehammer town centre.
• You will be back in Hamar at 18.45, and will then have to choose whether to continue along the route, return home, or spend an extra night.
Would you like to add another day’s cycling? Then we recommend spending it in Stange Vestbygd or at Nes & Helgøya. Both areas offer a beautiful cultural landscape and a plethora of enjoyable experiences along the way.
